ON THE OTHER HAND This sequence on gesture – acted out by very large-scale hands in a seemingly infinite atmosphere – continues my inquiry into the relationship between people and their environment. The expressionistic use of color helps one to focus beyond biological, cultural and ethnic diversity; furthermore, the use of motion and montage disrupts the time-space unity and distills fresh meaning from these gestures. This imagery blurs the distinction between positive and negative, demanding a reading that goes beneath the surface.
